A second-year student came looking for me on Wednesday, needing assistance on the citation style for citing web material using the Vancouver style - the student having completed an assignment.
Spent 45 minutes going over the assignment - referring to Sec. IV.A.9b. Reference Style and Format of the NLM website.
Student ended up enjoying the work, commenting: "Hey this is sort of tedious, but kind of fun"
Lessons learned from the encounter:
- Students know how to find me - when they have a need
- Student thought that I was going out of my way in helping her
(need to make students aware that's my job)
- the NLM web site is a very good resource
- Need to update some of my documentation - referencing guides
- want now to update the citation section of my Blackboard entry
(rearrange NLM entries & upload referencing instructions documentation)
